‘Orphan Black’ season 2, episode 8 review: Will Cosima survive?

Orphan BlackWere you hoping that there were more clones roaming around in the world of “Orphan Black”? If you were, then this week’s episode is going to make you jump for joy, so let’s dive right in and see what happened.

Cosima is shutting Delphine out, she’s still extremely angry at her over keeping the Kira information from her. Delphine learns that Leekie is dead and that Rachel is now in charge. Rachel plays on Delphine’s feelings for Cosima saying that they have to get Ethan, so that she can help the clones survive since his information on the synthetic DNA can help.

Delphine doesn’t buy Rachel’s story that Leekie died of a heart attack and talks to Cosima, telling her that they don’t need Kira’s stem cells and that Ethan may be the cure. Cosima finally caves in they make up, telling each other they love each other (we love, love, loved this moment). Also Cosima tells Scott that she’s the clone and he’s honored to work with her (this was also a total “awwww” moment).

Ethan shows up at Dyad to talk to Rachel and she asks why Sarah was given the gift of being able to reproduce and no one else and Ethan tells her that Sarah was a failure, that they were all designed not to reproduce. Ethan finally goes to the lab to start the process of finding a cure, but Cosima has a seizure. Will she survive or did Ethan show up too late?

Alison is back home and Donnie is not dealing well with shooting Leekie. As he tries to sneak out in the middle of the night, Alison catches him and they finally start talking and are very honest with each other for the first time. Donnie tells Alison about killing Leekie and Alison tells Donnie about Aynsley.

A new clone named Tony (a transgender-clone with a beard) is told to find Beth Childs and deliver a message. Instead Tony finds Art and Felix who tell Tony that Beth is dead. When Sarah finally shows up and tells Tony about the clones Tony gives them the message which is “Beth keep the faith, tell Paul he’s like me, he’s a ghost.” They later send Tony on his way but not after Felix and Tony share a kiss.

This episode had some really beautiful moments, some nerdy fun in the lab with the gamers and left us on the edge of our seats with Cosima’s seizure. The only thing we wonder about was what was the point of Tony? Was he there just to deliver a message about Paul? We liked the character of Tony and hope that he will come back at some point, but we just weren’t sold on him coming in, finding out he’s a clone, then going off into the sunset like it’s all no big deal. Episode grade: C+
