‘The Voice’ Italy: Viral star (and nun) Sister Cristina Scuccia wins after ‘Flashdance’ performance

The latest -When there is so much access to the internet these days, you really need to have something extraordinary on your TV show if you want it to go viral. This happened courtesy of the Italian version of “The Voice” earlier this year with Sister Cristina Scuccia, a woman who became known as “the singing nun,” and surprised with her energy and stage presence.

Well, let’s just say that Cristina did it again many times over in the competition, since she has done something that fellow viral singing-show sensations Jackie Evancho and Susan Boyle did not: She won the entire competition. What happens next when you are a nun / pop star? That is a hard question to answer, given that we would anticipate there being certain duties that she would have a certain obligation to fulfill.

Still, what this story represents to us (save for an awesomely fun performance of “Flashdance” below) is the sort of fun, interesting stuff that you can only see on an international version of the show. This is why so many of these stories take of: We may have multiple singing shows on TV, but few present so many fun angles and characters anymore. Most of the time they are pulled from a bag of like 8-10 people every season, and we just see more of the same time and time again.

When is your next chance to see something this astounding on American TV? It may just be in a matter of days, when there is another new episode of “America’s Got Talent.” Unfortunately for it, the bar has been set pretty high.

What do you think about this performance, and is it better than the first take on the song? Share below, and head over here to get some more news pertaining to “The Voice” franchise. Also, be sure to sign up to grab some additional TV updates via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
