‘The Walking Dead’ season 5 spoilers: Greg Nicotero to officially direct premiere
The rumors regarding Greg Nicotero and the season premiere of “The Walking Dead” are true: He will be getting back into the director’s chair yet again!
As a part of a new story from Deadline, which also discusses Nicotero’s AMC pilot “Galyntine,” it is revealed for certain that the special-effects guru will helm the upcoming season 5 premiere. He has already taken on this role for a variety of episodes over the series run, and should have four more episodes as a whole for season 5.
So why only four? We get this question a lot when talking about a variety of shows, and the simple answer is that it takes a whole lot more time to direct an episode than it does to simply film or appear in one. You have editing and post-production to handle, in addition to a variety of other responsibilities. Just to make things ever crazier for Nicotero, he also still has his special effects duties to handle, and is an executive producer on the show.
“The Walking Dead” has already been filming the premiere for a while now, and has to be reasonably efficient when it comes to its episodes. After all, you have 16 installments to shoot over the course of several months, and it’s not always easy to get some of them done when you remember the scorching heat that can pop up in Alabama around this time of year.
There’s no premiere date yet for the season, but expect it to launch at around mid-October as always. As for the content of the story, our answer is simple: Expect more Terminus.
