“Boardwalk Empire” season 5 is still many months from airing, but HBO is slowly and surely giving us more and more in terms of details and casting information.
The latest? The casting of a relative newcomer named Travis Tope to the show’s final season, where he will guest-star in the role of Slim. He’s a young drifter who is going to be coming to Atlantic City, and could end up working alongside Mickey Doyle.
There is not too much else known about this role right now, but we perceive this to be much more of an advisory or a set-up position given where we are in the series. The show doesn’t want to go so far down the rabbit hole with new characters at this point; instead, they want to cast more of the focus on the people we’ve already come to meet (including Nucky Thompson).
Tope is someone who is getting cast in quite a few films right now, and with that, we understand some of the hype surrounding his casting here. This is one of those names that a few years from now, you could see him on entertainment magazines or at Cannes. If nothing else, he is at least getting the opportunities.
There is no announcement yet as to when “Boardwalk Empire” will be back, but our feeling is that it will premiere at some point in September, just as it typically does. For a time, we also expect it to be paired with “The Newsroom,” which is also entering its own final season. The only difference is that the latter only has six episodes to shine.
