’24: Live Another Day’ episode 5 review: Michelle Fairley continues to dominate
Now that we are almost at the halfway point when it comes to “24: Live Another Day,” the questions are starting to come out now: Is this one of the better seasons of the show?
At the moment, we can at least say that it is one of the best in the second half of the series’ run, fronted by a great performance from Michelle Fairley as Margot. She’s put together a great resume in the past year, starting from “Game of Thrones” and leading to “Suits” and now this show.
The key cog in Margot’s plan this week was almost straight out of a “24” Bible if there ever was one: She wanted the President’s head almost literally served to her on a platter, and Jack Bauer had to figure out a way to make things right. Not an easy challenge even when you are the master of being awesome that he is. It’s therefore interesting that his best scene was actually the intimate one with Kim Raver about 40 minutes in which he admitted to many of his misgivings and apologized for them.
In the end, what you do for the ones you love ended up becoming one of the hour’s biggest themes, given that we saw Chloe struggle, and Kate realizing that her fight to clear her husband’s name was next to impossible. The teams eventually started to descend on Margot near the end of the episode, and this set up an intense showdown that Jack was not even front and center for. Of course, though, things were not this easy. They never are. Chloe informed Kate that the IP address that Jordan found was one that was placed there mistakenly, and this was all a setup in order to ensure that the good guys were caught.
Overall, this was a strong episode, and a near-disastrous one for the team. Let us just be happy that Fairley is killing almost every scene. Grade: B+.
