‘Game of Thrones’ season 4, episode 8 preview: Pedro Pascal on Red Viper – Mountain showdown
There was no new “Game of Thrones” episode airing tonight on HBO, so to help fill the void, why not have a little bit of fun courtesy of the man who has been the most welcome new addition of this entire season?
As the “Red Viper” Oberyn Martell, Pedro Pascal has found himself an instant following on the show. His character is dynamic, romantic, vengeful, and interesting just about every time that he speaks. He has also had an easy time currying favor with many of the show’s fans thanks mostly to the fact that he has decided to stand up and fight for Tyrion Lannister as his champion.
Of course, Pascal was coy during his Reddit AMA today when it comes to sharing spoilers, but he did say that “as far as what is upon us in the next episode, The Viper versus the Mountain, was one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done.” He proclaimed that The Mountain really is as enormous of a man as you see on TV, and this is going to be quite a challenge. He also claimed that he would put his money on Oberyn, but qualified that by saying that this is not a spoiler in any way.
One of our other favorite moments of the entire conversation came when someone asked for his thoughts about the /gayforoberyn subreddit that exists:
“I think that that’s the whole point of Oberyn Martell. So I think to have /r/gayforoberyn is definitely in line with what he’s about. And it would make him very happy and very busy, even busier than he would normally be.”
Isn’t Pedro such a delightful man? He also said that he was thrilled to be bringing the name “Pedro” back into good graces again after it was long associated with “Napoleon Dynamite.”
