‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 2 will join ‘Once Upon a Time,’ ‘Revenge’ season 4 with split season
Tonight, Marvel’s “Agents of SHIELD” is going to come to a close after an up-and-down first season, but the good news that we have to report now is that ABC is already doing one thing that we strongly consider to be a step in the right direction: Going the route of split seasons for the show like with many others.
Network programming head Paul Lee confirmed that like “Once Upon a Time,” “Revenge,” and “Scandal,” the Marvel drama will see its season split in half so that there are straight runs rather than episodes airing all over the place. While “Agents of SHIELD” will be off the air, for example, the network is going to run a new Marvel series in “Agent Carter.” Meanwhile, “Galavant”will take the place of “Once Upon a Time” during its own hiatus.
The great thing about this new scheduling pattern is that in addition to not making the schedules all weird and wonky, it also allows for the opportunity for ABC to play around with some pretty fun stuff when it comes to new shows. They can replace old ones, be given a shot to shine, and then maybe get a better spot at some point in the future. This is something that the network has figured out, even if for the time being they have to figure out a way to get out of fourth place. Not all of this is their fault, though, since they don’t have the promotion of the NFL or the Olympics like the other three big networks.
