Did we really need ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ on NBC?

NBC -Some of the early reviews are in about the “Rosemary’s Baby” miniseries that is airing over on NBC, and there is a general consensus about it for the most part: It’s not exactly a product that needed to be made.

The biggest problem with it seems to be that the pace is a little off, the characters a little miscast, and by and large, the product little more than something that didn’t really need to be made like this. If we were to issue some advice to executives (even if we are not even remotely qualified for it), we would say that this should have been an eight-episode series or something like “Bates Motel” more so than a two-part miniseries adaptation of a popular film.

In the end, there are two problems that we see with it above all else.

1. Adapting a movie to a network is something that is a little difficult to do under most circumstances, largely due to the fact that they have to be censored, and you’re going to lose a lot of their edge.

2. It’s hard to do anything that different unless you are completely reinventing things, and with the “Rosemary’s Baby” project, the biggest thing you obtained is getting Zoe Saldana on TV.

With all of this being said, we are very interested in seeing a little more of what is coming up tomorrow in the ratings. We like the idea of adapting things for TV in theory, and with the recent rise in miniseries, we are interested in seeing where this goes … even if we have a stronger opinion on this one.
