Anderson Cooper confirms Donald Sterling interview, will air on ‘Anderson Cooper 360’

CNN -There is a bizarre sort of phenomenon that comes with the bidding war various news organizations get in order to land controversial interviews. They want to get the facts, and at the same time plow over the other networks in the ratings.

If there is a network that desperately needing something to put on the air other than the Malaysian flight disaster, it is CNN. Therefore, it only seems appropriate that the network has landed an extremely high-profile interview in Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling, who will sit down for the first time to discuss his lifetime ban from the NBA after making racist comments in a series of leaked messages. The interview was conducted today by none other than Anderson Cooper, and it will air on his “Anderson Cooper 360” program Monday night. Prior to this, there will be excerpts from the clip that play throughout the day.

Certainly, we do not begrudge CNN for wanting to get this interview, and Cooper for trying to get to the bottom of whatever he wants to explore with this story. However, we still have to ask the question: Is there anything that can really be gotten out of this interview? We already know some pretty terrible things about Sterling, including some of what he said in the messages and some of his history. It does not really feel like there is anything that can be done on his part in order to change any of that perception, and this interview is more of a case of him defending himself for the sake of himself. Nothing he says will likely get him anywhere when it comes to his NBA franchise.
