‘The Tomorrow People’ finale review: Who died, and what was the big John twist?

Is the story for “The Tomorrow People” over? Due to the ratings, it might be, but we’ll give Phil Klemmer in the writers credit for one thing Monday night: Coming up with an interesting way to close the story of the season, which also giving a preview for what a second season could be.

Were these stories actually good? That is a different subject for debate. When it comes to answering the first part of that question, we feel like the writers closed off the tale of The Founder perfectly. Lives were lost (namely Roger and The Founder), and Stephen got the opportunity to be the hero as he managed to both stop the human race from being eradicated while also ensuring that Cara did not get a bullet into her stomach. Russell found redemption after working with The Founder briefly, and John and Astrid moved forward together as a couple. All was right with the world … or at least for now.

Then, things started to get a little bit hair given that Jedikiah couldn’t leave well enough alone. for some reason, he decided that it would be a novel idea to take people with powers, and form some sort of super-soldier army that could take on future issues as a wing of the Department of Defense. Not only that, but he convinced John to go with him and get his powers back!

Here is the way we look at this.

1. Don’t we have already way too many stories out there about armies of super-soldiers? “Agents of SHIELD” has been doing this for a while now, and even “Arrow” has been getting in on the action as of late.

2. Also, what is the motivation for making John do something like this? He seemed to be happier with Astrid. It was a fresh start, minus all the drama and pain of being a Tomorrow Person with the capabilities to kill someone.

So with this new story in mind, we cannot say that the show stuck the landing. Instead, it gave us one half of a really great finale, and we almost wish that there was no cliffhanger so that the show could have focused on ending the tale of The Founder, and giving us some normalcy. If season 2 happened, this story could’ve all been shelved until then. Grade: C+.
