‘Sherlock’ season 4 spoilers: Mark Gatiss confirms two-year wait for new episodes
We come today as the bearer of bad news to each and every “Sherlock” fan, but we imagine that this was almost some bad news that most of you saw coming a mile away: There are going to be no more episodes soon. As a matter of fact, we’re looking at a wait that is at least just as long as the last one.
Speaking in a fan Q&A session in Brazil, series co-creator Mark Gatiss made it clear that the major reason for this is just the juggling act that is required in between getting all of the scripts set, and then also making sure that there are schedules that are pieced together enough to actually make it all work out:
“Writing three films is a lot of work and then there’s getting everybody together … [It is] increasingly difficult to get everyone’s diaries to align, so we couldn’t really do more than three every couple of years I’m afraid.”
Personally, we’re fine even if the wait is three years so long as the stories are good and worth the time apart. The beauty of this show is that you make more when the people involved want to do more. There’s little commitment, and it keeps them interested and engaged. So long as there is time, there is also little reason not to take part in the project. After all, they produce great ratings and buzz for everything else the actors are working on.
