Ratings watch: ‘Supernatural: Bloodlines’ helps odds; ‘NCIS’ rises; ‘Trophy Wife’ done

What's coming up? -

Did “Supernatural: Bloodlines” just find itself a lifeline in the ratings? Maybe, but you have to remember that the executives over at The CW will consider more than this in making their decision.

Personally, we disliked this plodding, unfunny spin-off pilot, and we know that we are not the only ones who feel that way based on the reviews online. So while a 1.0 in the 18-49 demographic for the episode last night is very good for CW standards, we don’t see that number being as high in the fall when Sam and Dean are not around and you’re left with everyone else. Just go watch “The Originals” instead, since it’s basically the same show with cooler villains.

As for other noteworthy shows…

“Agents of SHIELD” – Given the budget, a 1.9 rating is not exactly that great, but ABC’s not getting rid of a Marvel property one season in. They’re more likely at this point to cast Robert Downey Jr. for an entire season.

NCIS” – A lot was made by us over the show’s drop to a 2.2 rating, but it rose a solid three-tenths versus this past episode to a 2.5. It’s already renewed for a 12th season, and despite it not being a great show for demo viewers anymore, we still feel like as long as it averages over a 2.0, it will last as long as the cast and producers want it to.

“Trophy Wife” – Sad to say, but it’s done. There’s no way this show gets another season with a 0.9. It’s ABC’s worst-performing show that has been on the schedule since the fall, and it’s killing the 10:00 hour to go along with it. It’s a shame given that it’s a fairly funny show, but it has the “Cougar Town” problem of an unappealing name. Move it to TBS!

As we get closer and closer to the upfronts, we will have some further updates on the shows in jeopardy, and if anything can be done to save them. For now, just share your thoughts in the comments, and click here to see some further TV updates via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
