‘American Idol’ notes: Adam Lambert’s greatest hits, Phillip Phillips – Jennifer Hudson gig
Obviously, Sony Music wants to ensure that they get everything that they can out of Adam Lambert before they seem him go away for good. He and the label recently parted ways, but they have still decided to release an album on May 27 (per The Hollywood Reporter) that is all about the singer’s greatest hits.
Even as someone who appreciates Adam’s sound and his music, some of the choices that are being made here by the Sony Legacy imprint are a little strange. Adam has only released two full-length albums with Sony, and this disc is therefore a combination for “For Your Entertainment” and “Trespassing” tracks along with tunes from “American Idol” and even one from his stint on “Glee.”
Take a look at what is to be the tracklist below:
1. Mad World (American Idol Performance)
2. One (American Idol Performance)
3. Tracks of My Tears (American Idol Performance)
4. Time For Miracles
5. For Your Entertainment
6. Whataya Want From Me
7. If I Had You (Radio Mix)
8. Aftermath
9. Can’t Let You Go
10. Trespassing (Radio Edit)
11. Never Close Our Eyes
12. Better Than I Know Myself
13. Runnin’
14. Marry The Night (Glee Cast Version)
There’s also something to be said for having a natural artistic flow on an album, and that was one of the greatest strengths of “Trespassing.” We’d almost suggest you just go back and buy another copy of that instead, since this disc is just chronologically-placed songs that you probably already own in other forms. (Also, we’d prefer “Fever” to “Time For Miracles,” and we’d probably also add “Rockstar” from his performances on “Glee.”)
Adam is already looking towards his future, and that is the music we are the most excited to hear.
“Today” lineup – For those curious, there are three people with “American Idol” connections who will be appearing this summer during their Concert Series. Former judge Mariah Carey will lead it off on May 16, while Phillip Phillips has June 27 and Jennifer Hudson has August 29.
For all of you who are watching this season of “American Idol,” we’ll have new rankings a little later in the day. You can also sign up now to get further TV updates from our CarterMatt Newsletter.

They must be contractually obligated to a third album, but they don’t want to invest studio time, so this is what they have come up with. Ridiculous. Both of his albums are so good.

“Strange” is right about Sony’s releasing a “Legacy” Lambert album – money talks with the suits, I guess. Only bright spot is the inclusion of “Can’t Let You Go” in the U.S. – an extraordinary vocal of a beautiful song.
