‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 7, episode 22 video: Star Wars Day and Bob Newhart
“The Big Bang Theory” proclaims in its latest promo that Star Wars Day is a “sacred geek holiday,” and who are we to correct them? While we’ve never been one to really celebrate beyond just a few “May the Fourth be with you” jokes, it is still a funny idea for an episode. Plus, there are not exactly many opportunities the show has to bring out a cake shaped like the Death Star.
The best thing about this episode is that the crew worked with LucasFilm in order to make this as authentic a tribute as possible, which is a rare collaboration these days thanks to Disney buying up the franchise. This includes getting a set of Dagobah for Shelton to run around in alongside Professor Proton (Bob Newhart), who is making his third appearance on the show in this episode.
Obviously, the thing we’re most concerned about is that this episode may actually be trying to be doing a little bit too much. Usually, Star Wars Day and Bob Newhart alone are each enough to inspire their own separate episodes, and really don’t have to be mashed-up together. This could be a case of having both suffer from screentime in just 22 minutes or so, when you take away commercials. Hopefully, that is not the case, especially given how much we have enjoyed some of the direction the show has taken this season when it comes to actually giving some characters real dilemmas. Take, for example, Sheldon realizing that he no longer wants to be in his scientific field.
