‘Face Off’ season 6 finale review: George, Tyler, and Rashaad’s last stand; who won?
“Face Off” is the sort of show where even if you miss a few episodes, you can still dive back in to the finale and still mostly understand what is going on. There’s not a ton of story building here compared to some other reality competitions (such as “Top Chef,” which beats you over the head with it caveman-style), and it’s largely about the art and the creations.
The finale started with George, Tyler, and Rashaad all fighting to earn the title of season 6 champion, and we’re not going to bury the lead here in masking the reveal: The winner was … Rashaad! By the time the episode was over we thought that it was between him and Tyler, since their designs were beyond incredible. Also, can we give them credit for doing it in such a short amount of time, as well?
So are we happy with the champion for the season? To be honest, and we know this is a cop-out, this is one season where we would’ve been okay with anyone coming on top. It wasn’t one of the those seasons where somebody made it to the finale by default, or had a lot of strokes of luck. They all have talent and a future in this business. (We feel like that will get them a lot further than the actual prize money will on this show.)
In the end, the biggest thing “Face Off” needs to figure out is if there is anything they can do with the formula, or giving some new challenges, twists to the competition, or even elimination format. The show is getting a little mundane six seasons in, and with it airing twice a year, that feeling is getting sped up. It’s still enjoyable from a talent perspective and Rashaad’s a great winner, but its format is pretty cut-and-paste from any competition show out there. Grade: B- as a show in need of a few changes.
