‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 15 spoilers: How William Lewis will continue to haunt Benson

Even though the William Lewis saga on “Law & Order: SVU” may be over, you don’t go through something like that without feeling repercussions that stay with you for a long time … and quite possibly ever. Ultimately, this is the position that Olivia Benson finds herself in when the show returns on April 30.

Moving into the finale, some of the trauma will still remain, but Benson’s mental state will be just one of many questions that needs to be investigated and hopefully resolved. For more on that, just look at what executive producer Warren Leight had to say on the matter on a TV Guide interview:

“Among the questions on the table: Will Olivia get the squad? Will there be a new captain? Will he stay? Will she get the squad back? What happens to baby boy Doe … This guy wants to haunt [Benson] for the rest of her life and one of the questions is, will she let him do that?”

The finale’s title this year of “Spring Awakening” feels appropriate, and not because it is a familiar reference. It could be a chance for Benson to actually rise from the ashes and realize that she will not let this man become a permanent fixture in her nightmares. That’s a whole lot of “easier said than done,” but if there is one person strong enough on TV to make it happen, it’s Benson. Eventually, we have confidence that she will be back to capturing more vile criminals like Lewis, even if it comes with some scars that will never be fully healed.
