‘Bates Motel’ season 2, episode 6 video: Norman Bates the … protector?

“Bates Motel” is now at the halfway point of season 2, and with that in mind, you expect the story to continue rising to new heights. But in the case of the sneak peek below, it is more about a small, isolated character moment featuring Norman Bates and Emma.

Who thought that we would see Freddie Highmore’s character be so protective? It is moments like these where you want to genuinely believe in this guy, and hope that he will meet a far different end than he does in the movie version of the tale. However, we doubt that this will happen. These scenes just give a little more light and shade to the character. He’s not pure evil, but just haunted in a way that nobody else can understand.

There are many other surprises ahead in this episode, but we do have to wonder how long Emma (or anyone close to Norman, for that matter) is going to survive. When you are on a show based on an iconic character like this, you have to constantly worry about such things. Emma’s a polarizing character for sure, but we at least like the layers that she adds to the story in giving Norman someone who brings a different sort of feeling out of him.

But, as lovely as this little protection scene for him is, we have a feeling that there could still be a sinister end to it…
