‘Shameless’ season 4 finale spoilers: Will Emmy Rossum, cast end strong?

This part of the spring is always a tricky time for fans; while you get to welcome many shows to the airwaves like “Game of Thrones” and “Mad Men,” you also end up saying goodbye to some that are beloved. Showtime’s “Shameless” and AMC’s “The Walking Dead” are right up there on the list.

Sunday night features the conclusion of the Gallagher family’s fourth season, and the promo below makes it very clear that there will be drama on all fronts. Fiona’s time in the smaller so far is not going very well; she’s dealing with addiction, and then all the standard terrible stuff that happens within the walls of a prison. Meanwhile, Frank’s having to deal with questions as to whether or not a new liver is going to solve any of his problems … and when you have a problem with alcohol, it’s hard to really fix much of anything.

“Shameless” is one of those shows that does succeed when balancing comedy and drama effectively, which is probably one of the reasons why it is switching to the comedy category for the Emmys this year. You can expect to see a combination of both in the finale, along with some sort of setup to what season 5 will be. The show, like most others on premium cable, is in constant communication with the network about the future, and is able to plan accordingly. Translation? They had a good feeling that they would be back for a while.

Stay tuned, as we’ll have some more updates on the future of “Shameless” on Showtime tomorrow.
