‘Agents of SHIELD’ spoilers: Could a season 2 possibly include Cobie Smulders?

When you look at some of the recent ratings for Marvel’s “Agents of SHIELD,” there may be one thing that becomes apparent to you pretty quickly: The show needs something extra to convince viewers to tune in more beyond just the promise of action and allusions to the Marvel universe.

So could that something extra be Cobie Smulders? Let’s look at the evidence for it. The biggest reason for her joining is that Maria Hill is already a beloved part of the Marvel universe, and “How I Met Your Mother” is now over. While we know she loved the experience, we wonder what sort of taste the fan backlash for the finale has left with her. Doing another TV show soon could help to get back in the swing of things, no?

Well, this is all just pure speculation, given that we’re also sure that Cobie would love to have a little bit of a break, or she and Taran Killam a little more time to spend with each other given that they’re married and work on separate coasts. (It’s for this same reason we always worry about his future on “Saturday Night Live.”) Another reason why a series-regular position for Smulders may not be in the cards for the show? It’s already expensive enough as it is, and with the ratings what they are now the show may not be able to even afford having someone else in the cast. Like all the other regulars on “How I Met Your Mother,” Cobie was making great cash for the final season.

As for some other evidence of what could happen, TVLine suggests that it’s possible that Cobie could be on the show for an arc next season, but it’s very unlikely that it would be a full-time job for her.
