‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers: Ian Somerhalder and the end of filming

The good news for the cast of “The Vampire Diaries” this year? The gang had an opportunity to wrap up shooting a little bit earlier than they did for season 4. If you remember back to a year ago, we had the likes of Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, and more still hard at work shooting episodes even while Coachella (a frequent hangout for some of the actors) was still going on. This year, who knows? Some of them may be able to actually attend and do a variety of other things to boot.

In a post on his Twitter account, Ian Somerhalder had to say the following about getting the opportunity to wrap up his work on the show, and move into some other exciting things coming up:

“End-of-season-5 insanity… Just wrapped. Good night beautiful world- miss you. See you soon.”

The summer schedule for the average “Vampire Diaries” star is really rather complicated,  Many actors choose to hit up the convention circuit around the world during the off months to meet fans and get extra cash, while others choose to make movies and do charity work. Ian, more often than not, finds a way to do all three. His self-titled foundation is constantly doing great things, and know that he has been working on some stuff just this week that he is looking forward to announcing. (On a different note, a trailer recently came out for “Let’s Be Cops,” the movie that Dobrev filmed during some of her time off last summer.)

While there may not be another new episode of the show until “Resident Evil” two weeks from Thursday, we’ll have plenty of updates on this Paul Wesley-directed episode before then.
