Is Chelsea Handler set to leave E!’s ‘Chelsea Lately’?

E! Logo -The world of late-night television has long been a fun and competitive one to watch, and the reason that there are such headlines when you have someone like Seth Meyers or Jimmy Fallon entering the fray in a new position is simple: There is so little change in the programming that when it happens, it is a pretty big deal.

So this is where we are now with the news that Chelsea Handler may be considering a departure from her E! show “Chelsea Lately” at the end of her current contract. Her manager Irving Azoff said the following on it to The Hollywood Reporter:

“Chelsea intends to leave when her contract expires. She hired me to figure out her life after E! We have at least seven suitors and many ideas.”

All a spokesperson for the network, meanwhile, would say is that Handler has nine months left on her current contract, and they have no interest in commenting or starting up further rumors at this time.

Could this all be a clever way to try to get a new deal for “Chelsea Lately”? Under most situations, we would say that this is likely thanks to the sheer number of times that we have seen this play out over the years. However, we have heard Handler say multiple times in the past that she is unhappy with various parts of how E! does business, and we know that she is one of many who is not a fan of every single star on the channel.

What we’re interested in now is seeing if it is possible for her to find another home in TV. She is the sole female late-night host out there, and while she has a great track record, it ‘s hard to sit here and think of a number of networks that have openings or an interest in bringing her on. Granted, there are also avenues out there on satellite radio or the internet, and she would likely be successful in those mediums, as well.

What do you think: Should Handler really leave the show that helped her become a star in the eyes of many? Share below, and to get some more updates from us at CarterMatt sent right to your email, just sign up for our official newsletter.
