NBC’s ‘The Voice’ preview: Josh Murley, Patrick Thomson get advice from Chris Martin

Shakira -This week’s upcoming episodes of “The Voice” is basically a case of good news and bad news. The good news is that Chris Martin, not someone who frequents the singing-competition circuit at all, is going to be a guest adviser for the upcoming week for all the teams. As a Coldplay fan, this is something that we would be extremely jealous of.

As for the bad news, it is so that they can take part in another cycle of the Battle Rounds, something that feel completely unnatural for artists not used to doing duets. It’s also not like they are going to do this for the vast 95% of anything and everything that they do in their careers moving forward.

In the video below, you can see Martin step in and provide some genuinely good advice for contestants Patrick Thomson and Josh Murley on Team Shakira. Chris is like Adam in that he has a voice that only works for certain types of songs, and he realizes that there is so much more to being a rock star. That’s why we feel like he will be able to help so many of these artists improve their individual stage presence so that they own whatever they are singing.

As for Shakira, we’re really surprised at her choice to pair Josh and Patrick up together, given that these are the two artists that she stole from the first Battle Rounds. Maybe this is a symptom of them having similar performance styles, or maybe she wanted to ensure that someone in the live shows from her did not start off on her team (though she’ll have that anyway, given that all of the coaches have one more steal left).
