‘Call the Midwife’ season 3 premiere preview (PBS): Jessica Raine, cast tease story

With “Call the Midwife” premiering on PBS Sunday night, we are getting set to cover the show in the same sort of way that we did for “Sherlock” and “Downton Abbey.” We will try to bring some fresher perspectives to the table, and hopefully provide you with a different bit of insight for the show than the sort that you had from it previously when we covered it in Britain.

Before we do anything else, though, let us explain the show for some of you who are knew to it. It takes place during the 1950s in Britain, and revolves around a series of nuns and midwives who are trying to make their lives work despite a number of various struggles, whether it be difficult births, relationships, or the limitations of being a woman in that time. Some of these women (see Jenny Lee) are progressive and independent, and there are challenges that come with that.

The show that reminds us the most of this is actually “Grey’s Anatomy,” as both have a tiny bit of narration, some individual stories that are taken care of every week, and then also some longer arcs that give you a sense as to a character’s long-term goals. If you love the Shonda Rhimes series, think of this as a period version of it with births instead of other ailments at a hospital.

Finally, check out the video below to get some further insight as to what to expect courtesy of star Jessica Raine and many other cast members. They don’t give anything major away, but make sure you know that there is plenty in Nonnatus House worth looking forward to.
