NBC’s ‘Hannibal’ season 2, episode 6 preview: Mads Mikkelsen and the meaning of ‘Futamono’

The latest -Is Jack finally starting to see the light when it comes to Hannibal Lecter? The promo for next week’s “Hannibal” is definitely a sign in the right direction, since it could serve to answer a question that is typically saved for school cafeterias: What’s in the mystery meat?

Whenever there is a death, there is an opportunity for Mads Mikkelsen’s character to throw himself a dinner party … one that could end up having terrible consequences for himself in this case. Jack takes some food to go, and then carries it over to the lab for testing. This could be all the evidence needed to finally put some clamps in this guy and for Will to prove his innocence . Unfortunately, all of it hinges on Hannibal being foolish enough to not see this coming.

If you want to get some more (very specific) details on this episode, check out the full synopsis below. Just be warned that you can’t forget anything that you read:

“When a city councilman’s body is found in a parking lot, intertwined with a tree, the artistry and missing organs suggest the work of the Chesapeake Ripper. Jack (Laurence Fishburne) and the team race against time to catch the Ripper while he’s still on his killing spree. When Will (Hugh Dancy) suggests the possibility that the Ripper is filling his pantry with the victims’ organs, Jack crashes Hannibal Lecter’s (Mads Mikkelsen) dinner party to collect evidence and test the meat for human DNA. Jack’s growing suspicions drive Alana (Caroline Dhavernas) even closer to Hannibal, believing he is the victim of a witch hunt. Meanwhile, clues from the tree man help the BAU zero in on a location they believe the Ripper used. There they discover the most shocking revelation of Jack Crawford’s career—Miriam Lass alive.”

For our weekly “know your Japanese food reference in the title” segment, Futamono is a for of dish topped with a lid, and is most often soup. In the case of this episode, at least Jack is putting a lid on the leftovers.
