‘Girls’ season 4 denied request to film at University of Iowa

Girls -It is not much of a spoiler at this point that Hannah Horvath was going to at least try attending school at the University of Iowa’s Writers Workshop on the upcoming fourth season of “Girls.” This was an enormous storyline throughout the season 3 finale, and after watching Adam pursue many of his own dreams, Lena Dunham’s character felt like she should do the same thing.

However, there is just one little problem coming into play here and really messing things up: You’re not going to be seeing any more of “Girls” on the actual University of Iowa after the school decided that they didn’t want any part of the show’s exploits. In a statement to the Iowa City Press-Citizen, the university’s Vice President of Strategic Communication Joe Brennan said that the nature of the story being filmed there is something that he did not want the school to be part of at all:

“After reviewing the script, I felt the storyline placed the city and university in an unfavorable light, and considering the potential for disruption, I made the decision to deny the request … I won’t share details as I don’t think it fair to reveal the plot in advance. I understand this is a popular show, but it’s my job to safeguard the reputation of the university.”

Clearly, we have a hard time imagining that this will keep Dunham from creating whatever sort of story that she wants to for the upcoming season. The only difference now is that because they said no, the university can now say that it was acting with the best interest of its students at heart, and had no interest in wanting to see them embarrassed.

Still, it is a big move to turn down a popular TV series, and you have to wonder just what sort of content was in these scripts.
