‘How I Met Your Dad’ gets assist from ‘The Crazy Ones’ for casting replacement

CBS -How  I Met Your Dad” already now has its first major story to someday tell in its inevitable behind-the-scenes DVD featurette … at least if the show gets good enough ratings for it to be taken to that point.

Originally, the role of the best friend to Sally (Greta Gerwig) on the show was going to go to “Smash” alum Krysta Rodriguez, and everything seemed to be set in stone for her to rock the role out. However, some changes at the last second stalled that. She ended up leaving the show following its table read this week, and that left producers in a bind to find someone knew.

Luckily, they were able to find someone else who would be right for the part pretty quickly. Tiya Sircar, following a recent recurring gig on “The Crazy Ones,” has been booked for the part. This has been described at times as being the show’s “female Barney” from “How I Met Your Mother,” but we see this a little more as someone who is mostly similar just because of the role she plays in relationship to the main character. Like Barney was to Ted, she will be the more enthusiastic and over-the-top other half to Sally, who is somewhat lost in a world of Peter Pan-like mystery.

“How I Met Your Dad” is still probably close to guaranteed a pickup on CBS, if for no other reason than the success of the original show. There is no reason for producers to think that this show wouldn’t be worth a try, unless it comes back and happens to be awful on every level. (We have a little more confidence in the people involved on the show than to think that this sort of thing is going to happen immediately.)
