‘The Tomorrow People’ episode 17 review: Meet Cara’s sister; debate the truth
“The Tomorrow People” is a show that has tried out a number of different things this season, and all of them with varying results. There was a love triangle for a while that existed between Stephen, Cara, and John, and we saw lots of Astrid, high school, and Stephen’s home life.
There wasn’t really any of that at all in Monday’s new episode “Endgame,” with the focus shifting a little more to trying to figure out whether or not Jedikiah or The Founder was the one actually telling the truth about wanting a better future, and actually wanting to make sure that Stephen’s father can someday live again. For a while, we have to give Jedikiah credit for making a good pitch as to his intentions of trying to protect his brother from a man capable of destroying him.
Then, The Founder let loose his reveal later regarding a very interesting question: Was Jedikiah jealous that he was never the one with powers in his family? Is some deep-seeded emotion the real motivation for some of what he has done? With him completely using Russell, we’re so much more willing to side with The Founder after this week’s episode … especially after what happened to his daughter Cassie. Still, we don’t feel like we really left this episode any more aware of anything than we were going in.
Elsewhere, seeing the story of Cara’s sister was a little bit of a nice touch, even if she was a tad whiny and also posed a question: Are we eventually going to see almost every family member come out with powers before this is over?
“Endgame” was enjoyable for the most part, but hardly the shocking episode that we had last week. Given that the show needs the ratings, let’s hope for some sort of big reveal moving forward to push the show in a fantastic direction as we near the finale. Grade: B-.
