ABC greenlights ‘Bachelor’ spin-off ‘Bachelor in Paradise,’ will not be ‘Bachelor Pad’ 2.0

We knew that ABC wanted to see more of “The Bachelor” on its schedule in some shape or form … but not one that involved “Bachelor Pad.” That particular spin-off drew middling ratings, but more importantly than that, was criticized for being trashy and very much out of line with the message and the vision that Disney chooses to have for the majority of their other shows.

Well, it seems that all parties involved have come up with a solution that can work: “Bachelor in Paradise.” Sources have confirmed that the network has ordered a new summer spin-off series that will feature past contestants living together, and trying to find love in a tropical location. While details are still sketchy, host Chris Harrison has already confirmed on Twitter that the show will not be like “Bachelor Pad” at all.

Our feeling here is that we anticipate “Bachelor in Paradise” being a way to bring back memorable contestants that people loved, and also still create an environment that good men and women would want to be involved with. “Bachelor Pad” was more of a humiliating experience, and very hard to go through unless you really just wanted to be on TV more. We believe this will be at least somewhat more wholesome and genuine, but we have to find out more on it before we are truly sold. We do recognize already that this franchise is incredibly cheesy and some people hate it, but it has its place on television. We have no problem with more of it so long as it brings something to the table. We don’t need another MTV spring-break show, but starring people who are far too old to be acting like teenagers.

What do you think at least of the idea in theory of bringing past stars to tropical locations for a new sort of “Bachelor” show? Share below.
