‘Agents of SHIELD’ spoilers: Patton Oswalt to play Agent Eric Koenig

Can we go ahead and proclaim now that Patton Oswalt is the ultimate guest star? This is a guy who has popped up everywhere from “Justified” to “Two and a Half Men” to “Parks and Recreation” and more, and we know now just what his next gig is going to be: Playing Agent Eric Koenig on an episode of Marvel’s “Agents of SHIELD.”

It was Marvel themselves who first reported the news of Oswalt’s casting, and Koenig is a character who is familiar to those of you out there who are avid readers of the comics. As for how he will be interpreted onto the show, that is one of the real questions that remains. The one thing that we are very happy about when it comes to this casting? That Oswalt is someone who could bring a much-needed comedic presence to the show, and give us something very different than anything that we have witnessed to date. Like many other hero shows in the past, we wish that the members of SHIELD could have a little more fun.

Hopefully this casting will also maintain some excitement with the show, which has lost some of the steam that it had from the start of the season. The good news is that the audience has seemingly leveled off, and while it is no longer a smash, it is a solid contributor that will likely be brought back for a second season when ABC makes their announcement a little bit later this spring. (We’re a little more concerned about some of the other shows airing on Tuesday night, including “Trophy Wife.”)

What do you think about Oswalt’s casting, and are you convinced at this point that there is no show he is unable to do? Share below.
