‘White Collar’ season 6 renewal close, will be six-episode final season

What's next? -Great news for all the “White Collar” fans anxious to finally have some information one way or another as to if the show is going to be ending: It appears as though there is a final season on the horizon.

According to Deadline, studio Fox TV and USA have seemingly come to a conclusion that will allow the show to have a six-episode final season. This is something that we and many others expected, mostly for a few simple reasons: It made no sense for the network to burn a bridge with their fans and cancel a beloved show without a conclusion, and there was also a five-season investment here.

As for why this renewal took so long in the first place, there were so many different financial factors in here. The big thing is that USA doesn’t own the show, and yet is fronting much of the cost for it at this point in its run. The network is trying to change how they operate in terms of ownership, and moving away from these sort of projects is a way to do that.

Also, there is the issue that the show shoots in what has historically been expensive in New York (even if there are some better tax breaks now), and has a high-profile cast that includes Matt Bomer as the lead. That is a lot of different things to try to juggle and figure out … but we’re glad that it seems to be close to official at this point.

Six episodes may not be a lot for a final season, but it’s enough to tie together the story in a concise way. “Nikita” is the most-recent show to pull something like this off on The CW.

So #Collars, rejoice! You all are the reason that this happened, and we’re thrilled to be able to cover the show for you for another year.
