‘Parks and Recreation,’ ‘Chicago Fire,’ ‘Chicago PD’ all renewed by NBC

The chain of early renewals across many of the major broadcast networks continued on Wednesday, as NBC made the move to pick up a number of their most-popular series for another season.

The first name we’re going to talk about here is one that everyone saw coming a mile away: “Parks and Recreation.” Even if the ratings are not exactly stellar, someone at NBC is a guardian angel for it. Maybe it’s just that they all really love Amy Poehler, or they just love having something that is consistently funny. Network head Robert Greenblatt hinted that this renewal would happening a long time ago, and now it is. Sadly, there is still no word on “Community,” which needs at least one more season to get close to its original six-seasons-and-a-movie prophecy it made a while back.

As for the other updates, “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago PD,” and “Grimm” are all going to be back to bring a little bit more drama to the medium the network for another year. None of these are surprising, since they have all produced pretty solid ratings. In truth, the network’s drama lineup Monday-Friday has not been that terrible. The only major weak links are “Revolution” and that Friday night spot at 10:00 p.m., but we don’t really know how much you can expect out of that spot in the first place. (Those new Sunday night shows are not doing particularly great, but it seems unfair to judge them so soon into their run on TV.)

The rest of NBC’s lineup will likely be announced at the upfront presentations in May, with the shows left in the air being “Community,” “About a Boy,” “Growing Up Fisher,” “Revolution,’ “Law & Order: SVU,” “Dracula,” “Hannibal,” and “Parenthood.” Out of that group, we see “Revolution” and “Dracula” saying goodbye, and everything else staying around a little while longer.
