‘Doctor Who’ season 8 spoilers: Does Paul McGann want to return?
With the “Doctor Who” 50th anniversary special and all of its components, we clearly saw an effort to highlight the show’s history. You had everyone from Tom Baker to David Tennant to of course Matt Smith, and Paul McGann turned in an appearance for the “Night of the Doctor” web clip.
So is it possible that these frequent Doctor appearances could happen in season 8 with Peter Capaldi? Maybe in time, but based on what we are seeing and hearing now, it is not something that will be happening right away. One Doctor in McGann did tell Yahoo! that he would be intrigued in coming back if the script was right for him, but also exercised caution on the idea of anyone returning to the show before the current Doctor in Capaldi had an opportunity to really make his mark on the series:
“There’s always all kinds of rumours. Doctor Who is like a rumour mill, isn’t it? ‘Yeah, McGann is gonna do this, Matt is gonna do that, there’s going to be a spin-off, blah blah blah’.
“Of course it’s all b*******, because it’s Moffat who decides what they’re going to do next … And of course, now you’ve got a new Doctor in Peter Capaldi – I think it’s only fair that he gets a decent run on his own without any distractions so he gets his feet under the table.”
Personally, we see it being well into 2015 before we see any cameos from past Doctors on the show, unless of course that tiny Matt Smith cameo hinted at recently turns out to actually be a thing.
