‘Hawaii Five-0’ season 5: Jorge Garcia promoted to series regular

Jorge Garcia was known to love Hawaii so much that he opted to move there during his time filming “Lost.” With that in mind, can you really be that surprised to learn that he is the latest regular for “Hawaii Five-0” after just a pair of appearances?

Sources have confirmed that the actor will join the CBS procedural in season 5 as Jerry, the conspiracy theorist and former high school classmate of Chin Ho Kelly. Of course, that was always a fun connection to begin with thanks to Garcia and Daniel Dae Kim working together on the out-of-this-world ABC show for many years. CBS renewed “Hawaii Five-0” this afternoon along with a dozen or so other scripted shows, which was a nice bit of relief given that there were concerns over whether or not it could handle a Friday timeslot.

This promotion does leave “Hawaii Five-0” with a pretty big cast, but there has not been any indication that any person will be cut before the start of the new season. (This may be a story that plays out in the weeks ahead.) What we will say here is that contractually, most actors sign on for six years at the start of a series, so in theory most of the actors would still be on board unless they either wanted out to do other things, or the writers decided that it was time to go in a new direction. So for now, it’s better to just celebrate the inclusion of Jorge than it is to worry about whether or not X person or Y person is going to be brought back for another season.
