‘The X Factor’ UK: Talking up Cheryl Cole, Olly Murs, and Lionel Richie

The latest news -Are we near the end of the process for the “X Factor” UK judge search, there are a few names that are floating around out there in the ether. Do all of them still have one thing in common? It sure seems like it: It looks like the panel for 2014 is going to be three men and one woman, in what is a structure that will feel very familiar to fans of “The Voice.”

Cheryl Cole is the clear favorite to land that female judge spot, and per the Daily Star, her biggest stipulation in being on the show is that she does it without there being another woman. This has been reported in the past, but now that the parties are close to a deal, it is being stressed more than ever.

Here is what one source had to say on the matter:

“If Cheryl does come back as planned, she will be the only woman on the panel. That’s how she wanted it and at this moment she seems to be calling the shots,” Daily Star cite a source saying. They’re still finalising the other details but Cheryl made it clear she didn’t want to be pitched against another female again.”

Also, the report is that both Olly Murs and Lionel Richie (a longtime friend of Simon Cowell) have been rumored for the final spot, and we see the merits of both. Olly is a proven commodity with the show and very likable, while Lionel is a music icon. We’d go with the further for the sake of young viewers, but that’s just us.

For those of you who follow the world of singing shows closely, then you may be familiar already with the fact that Richie was very briefly a part of the ABC series “Duets,” at least in the he signed up to be a part of it, was even at one point promoted. However, he later dropped out, and was then replaced by John Legend. (This show also featured Robin Thicke prior to him becoming a huge star with “Blurred Lines.”)
