‘American Idol XIII’: Don’t expect any Simon Cowell comeback moving forward
While we don’t entirely know if Simon Cowell was really ever on your mind as a possibility to return to “American Idol,” it is still fairly interesting to see that for the first time in three years, there is conversation related to him and the Fox show that really helped to jump-start his career as one of the most influential people in music television.
The Fox reality staple, and now the only singing-competition on their schedule, held a press event today to tease the start of their live shows, and while there, executive producer Per Blankens said that there is no chance that we will see Simon back on the show again anytime soon. We can at least confirm that he will be away this year for a number of different reasons, whether you are talking about him judging “Britain’s Got Talent,” his girlfriend Lauren Silverman giving birth (which is actually happening as we write this), or his upcoming return to the British “X Factor.”
There are a number of other reasons that you could consider Simon a persona non grata at “American Idol” these days, with one being his long-standing feud with show creator Simon Fuller that has included courtroom battles. Also, from a practical standpoint it doesn’t make sense. While he is a part of the show’s original fabric, there is no reason for “American Idol” to move backward. Not only that, but we’ve learned from “The X Factor” that there are not exactly people out there ready to break down the door to see Cowell on American television again.
“American Idol” will be on three nights next week, and the judging panel is the same that it has been this whole time: Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez, and Harry Connick Jr. at the table, with Randy Jackson helping out behind the scenes.
