‘Psych’ season 8: Maggie Lawson books another new pilot

Psych -Remember back when there was a panic when it was announced that Maggie Lawson was going to star in “Back in the Game”? Well, we know now that the star of “Psych” is going to be trying out another new role now, and there is no real reason to panic. After all, we already know that the USA network hit is finally going to be coming to a close.

According to a new report from Deadline, Lawson is set to sign on for “Save the Date,” a new comedy pilot for CBS that revolves around her character of Kate, a woman who after becoming single, books herself a wedding venue and then has to find a way to fulfill it. This is a comedy meant to be designed in the vein of “How I Met Your Mother,” where it is multi-camera in format, but does not contain a laugh track or a live audience.

When looking back at the reason “Back in the Game” failed, it didn’t really have anything to do with Lawson’s own ability in the role. We blame it a little bit more on the premise, which didn’t really yield much in the way of a story after the first episode or two. This show has something that should feel right for CBS audiences, especially since without “How I Met Your Mother,” the network will be looking for something that has a sort of romantic tinge to it. Yes, they have ordered another show in “How I Met Your Dad” from the same producers, but who knows if that will capture the same magic?

Does this sound like a winning show idea to you, or something that is a little more likely to be heading to the TV graveyard at around the same span of time that “Back in the Game” did?
