‘Once Upon a Time’ season 3: What familiar face has landed new gig?
Are we getting set to see another popular character from “Once Upon a Time” take off to a new series? It is a pretty strong possibility, at least based on some of the latest casting intel that we are hearing now.
According to sources, JoAnna Garcia Swisher, who you otherwise know for playing the Little Mermaid Ariel on the ABC show, has been tapped to star in the new project from Stephanie Savage (“Gossip Girl”) entitled “Astronaut Wives Club.” This project has been sent to series automatically, which basically all but guarantees that Ariel will not be a regular presence on the show’s fourth season. (It is still possible, though, that there could be a few appearances done here and there.)
This series continues the precedent set by “Mad Men” of being a show set in the 1960s, and it will revolve around the women who are supporting the great astronauts of the space race. Garcia’s character is Betty, a woman who has an almost-clairvoyant ability to predict things, and is starting to feel like things between her and her husband are starting to go in opposite directions.
Losing guest stars to other shows is something that “Once Upon a Time” is extremely familiar with, and it serves as a consequence of them hiring known actors for many of their roles. Giancarlo Esposito, Jamie Chung, Sarah Bolger, and Meghan Ory (who was a regular at the time of her departure) are some of the actors who have already crossed over from this show to finding a new roles elsewhere. Rose McIver this season balanced her arc as Tinker Bell with some of the work that she did beforehand on Showtime’s “Masters of Sex.”
