‘The Voice’ UK preview: Chris Royal covers ‘Wake Me Up,’ is beyond amazing

Do we already have a pick now for our favorite contestant of “The Voice” UK season 3? We’re starting to think so, at least based on the new performance that we have in the video below. Chris Royal is one of the first singers that we’ve wanted to listen to on repeat a few times; we were surprised by the layers and the strength in his voice, and then we were surprised even more by his beanie and his choice in shirt for the occasion.

All of this is probably helped by the fact that Royal is singing one of the better hits of the past couple of years in “Wake Me Up.” What we especially dig about it is that with this soulful arrangement, it barely even sounds like the same Avicii track that you hear on the radio. We’ve heard some acoustic versions of the song before, but not quite like this. When that falsetto part kicks into the song, we are completely sold … and then the video stops just before the likely chair-turns from the coaches.

We don’t know how this guy doesn’t get interest from all four of these people, since he has something that they could all need: Talent, and originality. With that being said, we would say that Ricky Wilson may actually be the best mentor for him at this point. You need someone who is not only going to be great at keeping your stage presence song, but making sure that you get the most out of those lyrics. Chris has a voice that really takes you places, and that is especially important.

Okay, enough gushing for the time being. Regardless of whether or not you like this performance as much as we do, we want to hear your thoughts below
