‘Criminal Minds’ season 9 spoilers: AJ Cook on JJ’s future after 200th episode
There is no questioning that when it comes to the events that transpired over the course of the 200th episode of “Criminal Minds,” AJ Cook had some of her best material to work with in a while. However, at the same time it is some of the most difficult circumstances possible for JJ to work through. We learned that the character, during her time away, had at one point suffered a miscarriage, in addition to all of the trials that were put upon her when it comes to a deep undercover mission.
Now, JJ is reeling from some events in the episode’s present-day, and when the 201st episode (which airs in a couple of weeks) starts back up, we will get a chance to see just how she is reeling and recovering from all of that. For those of you who are looking for a couple of details, Cook was kind enough to hand them over in a TV Guide interview:
“She’s had a couple weeks off when we see her again. I think there’s a relief you feel at the end of the 200th. There are no more secrets, no more lies. That chapter is closed. You feel that in the end when the team is altogether. We add these layers to our characters that we tap into when we need to, so there won’t be a big aftermath episode, but there might be moments here and there later on that affects her. She comes back tired, but she does her job and she’s fine.”
Cook also said that the cast is getting ready now to start up work on their big season finale, and at the moment, she is really hoping that the gang is going to get an opportunity to see just what happens with it. In the past, the show has alternated between cliffhangers and straightforward endings; in this case, she is hoping that the lack of needed contract negotiations is going to lean more towards us having more of the former rather than the latter.

Um, no. Erica Messer -the headline of the TV Guide article says Criminal Minds Boss. And, how can you be “reeling” and also “fine”? Erica Messer – in the very quote you put here- has made it clear that there is no recovering, present tense. JJ has recovered, past tense. It’s old news to them. JJ’s fine. She’s not reeling, she’s not recovering. She’s fine.
