‘Girls’ season 3, episode 5 preview: Could Ray and Marnie be a thing?
Could Ray become the second guy on “Girls” to have some sort of hookup with two of the four women? (We’re considering what Elijah and Marnie did as a part of that equation … even if there wasn’t much of anything that happened.) After the coffee-shop owner and Shoshanna went their separate ways, he is going to have a conversation on Saturday’s episode all about Marnie.
Namely, Marnie wants him to tell her everything that is wrong with her, and as Ray so-carefully points out, this sounds like a trap. If he was smart, then we would tell him that the best thing to do in this situation would be to run far away.
Really, we don’t think anything will come from this in the end, even if Marnie is emotionally vulnerable. Given that she is one of his possibly-former employees, Ray is at least smart enough to know that sleeping with her would be very bad news for business. The two are coming off of a nuclear fight, as well, that stemmed from Ray watching that humiliating video of Marnie on YouTube time and time again.
So why do we emphasize Saturday in the above paragraphs? In case you haven’t heard, it is because the next new episode of the show is airing a day early in order to accommodate the Super Bowl. The last thing HBO wants to do is see its ratings go straight into the tanker, especially since “Girls” is hardly a show with a huge live viewing audience in the first place. (This is one of those shows that we most assume people just choose to watch at their leisure.)
