‘Sherlock’ season 3 finale (PBS) spoilers: ‘His Last Vow,’ and Charles Augustus Magnussen

Sherlock season 3Here is the crazy / sad thing about “Sherlock” season 3 right now: We have already witnessed the premiere, middle and finale of the show in the United Kingdom, and next week we will be at the finale of the show in America. How long of a period of time are we covering here? Just 33 days. Seriously. That is it.

The story is going to come to a close next week with “His Last Vow,” which is a very entertaining chapter of the tale that introduces a new villain in Charles Augustus Magnussen (Lars Mikkelsen), revs up the action again, and should satisfy many of you out there who felt like the wedding between Watson and Mary was a little light on what you actually watch this show for.

Granted, we understand if you have a very important question for PBS: Why in the world air this against the Super Bowl? Let’s hope you have DVRs if you plan to watch the big game. The big reason for their move is that they very much aware of the fact that there is not too much in the way of competition against the Super Bowl, and they may be able to capitalize on that somehow (at least if they are lucky). “Downton Abbey” last year drew the second-highest ratings of the night behind the big game, so there may be some logic in that. Not everyone wants to watch giant guys in pads hit each other in freezing cold weather!
