2014 Grammys: Beyonce, Jay-Z open show with ‘Drunk in Love’
The Grammy Awards are one of those few music awards shows that really does create TV moments, and by that we mean something more than what you would ever see on a results show for a singing competition.
So who had the honor of opening the show this year? Let’s just say that it is someone who has been a Grammy staple for many years: Beyonce. She has been a success with Destiny’s Child and also as a solo act; this time around, her performance of “Drunk in Love” seemed to be a combination of the past, the present, and also something very new for her. It was a pretty racy performance that involved a chair, plenty of writhing around the stage, and also a number of instances when the censors had to be activated.
As you would expect for the Grammys, there was also a collaboration: Jay-Z. The rapper took the stage near the end of the performance to provide a verse. In addition to being Beyonce’s husband, the two famously collaborated on the song “Crazy in Love” many years ago, right when Beyonce was starting off her solo career. The two left the stage arm in arm, another sign that they are one of music’s power couples.
There are many more big acts coming up on the night, including Kendrick Lamar, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, and a massive tribute to Ringo Starr and Sir Paul McCartney that is also going to be worth watching for any longtime Beatles fans out there.
