‘Mad Men’ season 7: Kiernan Shipka on Sally’s future

Thanks to this rather-exhausting “Mad Men” hiatus, it’s been a while since we have really had that opportunity to sit down and discuss what the journey could be for some of these characters the rest of the way. The last time that we saw the show, Don Draper was seemingly opening himself up more to that part of him otherwise known as Dick Whitman. He was being honest, and hopefully doing something to repair what could be a relationship still with his children.

With that in mind, we turn to Sally Draper. What does the future hold here? She was starting to turn down a dark path, but with a more attentive father, isn’t it possible that this could change? Sure, but you are not going to get anything out of Kiernan Shipka for a little while when it comes to that. Speaking in a new interview with Elle, she expressed some of the great things that come with being a part of this show. However, she did not divulge any information about what is coming up on season 7:

“We couldn’t be more different … That’s why she’s so compelling to play. As a viewer, I’d probably want Sally to get better, but as the actor who portrays her, I definitely want more drama. I have no idea where she’s headed. In fact, every time I’ve tried to guess, I’ve gotten it wrong. But whatever it is, I hope it’s juicy. Because that’s always so much more fun.”

The structure of “Mad Men’s” final season does make it possible for things to remain a secret for quite a long time, mostly because it will not be until the spring of 2015 until the final episodes air. Let’s just hope that you are therefore the patient type, and for Shipka’s sake, let’s hope that there are great stories along the way.
