‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers: Ian Somerhalder’s Damon and the next move

Damon -The 100th episode of “The Vampire Diaries” Thursday night was a big one, especially when it comes to establishing the circumstances of a few very important characters to the show. We learned that Katherine figured out a way to stay alive despite her looming death, and it revolved all around her finding a way to transport herself straight into Elena’s body. Meanwhile, we saw Caroline and Klaus finally make a move when it comes to their relationship (albeit a brief one), and also some cameos from many faces that have since gone to the other side.

Now that this episode is over, though, it does feel like the right time to try to figure out the following: What comes next? This was a game-changing episode, and it is not an easy thing to figure out how all of these characters are going to move forward following what they have been through. For example, example producer Julie Plec tells TVLine that while Damon may want to get back with Elena, Ian Somerhalder’s character is going to run into brick wall after brick wall thanks to the confusion that is Elena’s new struggle:

“He’s all ready to go ahead and do what he can to get Elena back and can’t understand, in the beginning, why she’s not returning his phone calls. [Laughs] So [the next] episode spirals from there. But Damon’s working really hard to reclaim his undying and eternal love for Elena just as Elena, aka Katherine, is trying to extricate herself from Damon’s life.”

Do we think that Damon could be successful at winning Elena back? The best way to put this is that we have learned over time that anything with this show is possible. If we were to ever doubt Damon’s abilities to actually showcase his feelings at this point, we would be a writer without a brain. As a matter of fact, Elena seeing Damon pursue her to such a great extent, even if she can do nothing about it, may help them in the long run.
