‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5: Nina Dobrev reflects on 100 episodes

If you love “The Vampire Diaries,” then you have to be more than invested in the 100th episode that is going to come out Thursday night. There are going to be surprises, moments of reflection, and also opportunities to wonder what the rest of the series is going to bring.

But, one thing that you have to start wondering is just how many more years the show could have left. Most of the actors are under contract for at least one more season, and maybe longer depending on the ratings and what they want to do. This is something alluded to in Nina Dobrev’s quote to TVLine, where she also explains a little bit just how she feels about hitting this milestone, and how fast much of this journey has felt for her:

“It’s like, ‘Oh my God, we did 100 episodes. Basically, like 50 movies.’ It is a milestone. It’s a big accomplishment that not many shows can say that they have reached. It’s very exciting. It puts things into perspective. It makes you realize how lucky we are. It’s great to be part of a great show that people actually watch and enjoy and can say that’s done this many episodes and is still going. We still, hopefully, have another season in us at least… But I feel like we started yesterday. But it’s been five years, which is scary. Way to talk about putting things into perspective — life and time and how fast it passes. It really does pass faster as you get older.”

Personally, we could actually see the show going as long as season 8, at least if the writers are interested in keeping Elena in school that long. As for whether or not it lasts that long, we imagine that this could be based more on what the cast and the producers want to do more so than the ratings. The viewers are clearly there, and The CW has kept many of its shows on for that long. Just look at what “Supernatural” is doing in season 9.
