People’s Choice Awards 2014: Beth Behrs, Kat Dennings, Ian Somerhalder featured in opening

The 2014 People’s Choice Awards may have just started off with a 10-minute preview for “2 Broke Girls,” based on just how many little nods to the show that were in here, from the costumes and also the sitcom laugh track that was there at the beginning. But CBS clearly knows what they were doing here, as they want some more ratings for the comedy. That’s one of the many reasons why Beth Behrs and Kat Dennings were included here as the hosts.

But at least the opening sketch for the show was somewhat charming, as they had a number of nominees in the famous diner as Max and Caroline read off various nominees. We saw Ian Somerhalder, Kaley Cuoco, Melissa Rauch, and many more just within the confines of this little set, and also a pretty funny little bit to make you think that we were actually going to have Sandra Bullock in there, as well. (There was also sort-of Bryan Cranston thrown in here at one point, though that was just old footage of Walter White.)

As the opening monologue itself started, though, we saw that the benefit to having Dennings and Behrs co-host was mostly that they have a good rapport together, and clearly seem to get along. Ultimately, though, we have a hard time thinking that anyone is going to be able to give some sort of legendary performance in this role. The hard thing about hosting a show like the PCAs is really that there is no way to give a perfect performance, since you are only allowed to do so much. You cannot be that lewd or shocking thanks to the audience, and you really just have to keep things going since you only have two hours.
