‘Glee’ season 5: Lea Michele to debut ‘Cannonball’ music video on January 9

We predicted that Lea Michele’s big announcement on Tuesday was going to have something to do with the music video for “Cannonball,” and this turned out to be correct at least in that we now have a release date for when it will hit the internet.

The date for the video is Thursday, January 9, which is great mostly in that it is only two days away. It also shows that Lea is not spacing things out too much when it comes to her music, and hoping to launch at a time when the music industry does not often release much music that has a ton of buzz attached to it. This also makes it possible for her to have her name in the headlines for as long as possible. Remember that “Glee” does not return to television until February 25, and so she is not going to get too much in the way of publicity from that until then.

While Lea has already released another song in “Battlefield,” “Cannonball” is the track considered to be her lead single, and the one that she is trying to use in order to really launch the music career. The biggest challenge to come is still the radio, which is where most of the other “Glee” stars with original music have stumbled. It’s a competitive market these days, and the place where Lea is probably the most likely to succeed is the Adult Contemporary market, as pop music these days seems to be about mostly dance beats, auto-tune, and super-repetitive choruses that really do not yield much at all save for allowing you to dance. There’s not really any thought to it anymore.
