Ratings: ‘The Carrie Diaries’ posts new season high; does it improve season 3 odds?

Obviously, the secret to success for “The Carrie Diaries” is pretty simple: All it has to do is find a way to air more episodes on nights where there is not much else on for people to watch.

For the first time in all of season 2 on Friday, The CW series made it over the 1 million viewer plateau, and also tied its season-high rating of 0.4 in the 18-49 demographic. While this is not exactly a rating worth bragging about, the show has demonstrated an ability to hold steady and keep its audience all year long, which is not something many other programs on the air have done.

As of right now, we would put “The Carrie Diaries” at least a head of a few other shows when it comes to its odds of getting another season. For sure, it has a better chance than “Beauty and the Beast,” which is drawing the same sort of numbers on a night in Monday where it should be performing better. Meanwhile, “Nikita” is gone, and we would even say that it may be better off than “The Tomorrow People” in that this show probably is aided heavily by airing after “Arrow,” and would not perform as well in this timeslot. AnnaSophia Robb and company have a very young audience, and also a good percentage of internet viewers. These are some of the reasons why the show was renewed for a second season in the first place.

In case you are wondering, the reason why we are giving “Hart of Dixie” a better shot of coming back over “the Carrie Diaries” is mostly due to the fact that it is currently in its third season, and for syndication purposes if nothing else it will likely be given another opportunity to air 22 episodes. It and “The Carrie Diaries,” at least to us, would actually make a nice Friday lineup and serve as counter-programming to the likes of “Grimm” and some of the more male-skewed shows that are out there.
