‘Switched at Birth’ season 3: First video of ‘Breaking Bad’s’ RJ Mitte

Only a few short months after “Breaking Bad” came to a close, RJ Mitte is now trying something a little bit different out.

The actor, best known for playing the part of Walter Jr. a.k.a. Flynn on the brilliant AMC series, is going to be making his debut January 13 on ABC Family’s “Switched at Birth.” The great news for him? His latest role does not appear to be mired at all in some of the problems that Walter Jr. had in between his dad being a terrible drug lord and him constantly having to deal with the pressures of school and his mom’s emotional state.

Based on the first preview below (via The Hollywood Reporter), Mitte is playing a very different sort of character here. Specifically, his character of Campbell is a student bound in a wheelchair who works at the same clinic as Daphne (Katie Leclerc), but like here, there is so much more here than initially meets the eye. He offers her a ride, and after she at first thinks that he is talking about his lap, he then points out that he actually has a Camaro that he drives using hand controls. Campbell is a former snowboarder that has adapted to life following an accident, and seems like a much more comfortable guy that Walter Jr. ever was. Not only that, but he doesn’t seem to have anywhere near the same sort of anger or swearing problems.

This was obviously a great get for “Switched at Birth,” and it also helps to show how so many “Breaking Bad” actors are looking now to shake things up a little bit after their time on the show. Bryan Cranston has been performing on stage, while Betsy Brandt is now showing off her comedy chops on “The Michael J. Fox Show.”
