‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’ 2014: Billy Joel rings in the year with ‘You May Be Right’

When we first heard the news that Billy Joel was going to be making an appearance on “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” in order to perform after midnight, we really did have to sit down and wonder just what he was going to choose to sing. While most of the other guests had only a select few songs to choose from, this is a guy who really had a plethora of different songs that he could have went with.

So what did he decide on performing in the end? It was none other than one of his greatest hits in “You May Be Right.” (At least this is the one that he performed for us; the crowd in the Barclays Center more than likely got a chance to hear a few more songs.) Personally, we expected to hear a rendition of something along the lines of “New York State of Mind,” which is such an iconic song when it comes to the city. After all, there was already another iconic song that came on before it in “New York, New York.”

Regardless of what he performed, Joel is still the same sort of excellent master of rocking out at the piano that he was decades ago, and it was a nice move by ABC to get someone classic on a night that also featured so many modern people in Macklemore and Ryan Lewis along with Miley Cyrus.

What did you think about this performance, and is this the Billy Joel song that you wanted to hear? Be sure to share your thoughts below!
